  • Scripture: D&C 78:13–22
  • Commentary: Casey Paul Griffiths, Doctrine and Covenants Minute, Doctrine and Covenants 78:13–14.
  • Commentary: Casey Paul Griffiths, Doctrine and Covenants Minute, Doctrine and Covenants 78:15–16.
  • Commentary: Casey Paul Griffiths, Doctrine and Covenants Minute, Doctrine and Covenants 78:17–22.
  • Quote: A grateful heart is a beginning of greatness. It is an expression of humility. It is a foundation for the development of such virtues as prayer, faith, courage, contentment, happiness, love, and well-being.
But there is a truism associated with all types of human strength: “Use it or lose it.” When not used, muscles weaken, skills deteriorate, and faith disappears. President Thomas S. Monson stated: “Think to thank. In these three words are the finest capsule course for a happy marriage, a formula for enduring friendship, and a pattern for personal happiness.” Said the Lord, “And he who receiveth all things with thankfulness shall be made glorious; and the things of this earth shall be added unto him, even an hundred fold, yea, more” (D&C 78:19).
James E. Faust, "Gratitude As a Saving Principle," April 1990 General Conference.

Sunday

  • Commentary: Section 79 Context, Steven C. Harper
  • Scripture: D&C 79:1–4
  • Bio: Jared Carter, Susan Easton Black
  • Commentary: Section 80 Context, Steven C. Harper
  • Scripture: D&C 80:1–5
  • Commentary: Casey Paul Griffiths, Doctrine and Covenants Minute, Doctrine and Covenants 80:1–5.
  • Quote: I have talked with many individuals who question the strength of their personal testimony and underestimate their spiritual capacity because they do not receive frequent, miraculous, or strong impressions. Perhaps as we consider the experiences of Joseph in the Sacred Grove, of Saul on the road to Damascus, and of Alma the Younger, we come to believe something is wrong with or lacking in us if we fall short in our lives of these well-known and spiritually striking examples. If you have had similar thoughts or doubts, please know that you are quite normal. Just keep pressing forward obediently and with faith in the Savior. As you do so, you “cannot go amiss” (D&C 80:3).
President Joseph F. Smith counseled: “Show me Latter-day Saints who have to feed upon miracles, signs and visions in order to keep them steadfast in the Church, and I will show you members … who are not in good standing before God, and who are walking in slippery paths. It is not by marvelous manifestations unto us that we shall be established in the truth, but it is by humility and faithful obedience to the commandments and laws of God” (in Conference Report, Apr. 1900, 40).
David A. Bednar, "The Spirit of Revelation," April 2011 General Conference.
